A man trying to unwind stretched out on his porch after a hard day's work got the terrifying surprise of his life when a massive bear walked right up to him.
Doorbell camera footage (above) shows David Oppenheimer sitting on a lounger in his home in Carolina, when a
black bear can be seen enteringfrom the right side of the camera.
Neither David or the beast seem to notice each other despite just being a few feet apart.
That is until the human catches sight of the bear in the corner of his eye and jumps with fright.
The movement also startles the bear and the two engage in a strange stare-off until the bear turns and runs out the way it came.
David from Asheville, North Carolina, USA captioned the video: "Chillaxing at the end of the day, didn't expect to make eye contact so close.
"Good thing we are already acquainted."
David was first alerted to the presence of an intruder when he heard an alarm from his motion detector
However, when he initially looked around, he could not see anything.
“About a minute later, the bear came along and was practically in front of me,” he said, adding that the young beast just “kept looking” at him.
Grabbing what he could to defend himself in case of attack, David devised a cunning plan.
“I was holding on to that pillow and thought if it came at me, I would stuff the pillow in its mouth,” he said.
He said the closeness to the bear “made it a little awkward,” but the animal didn’t seem frightened, only “puzzled” by the situation. The bear then took off.
David now says he’s considering attaching a rearview mirror to his chair to avoid future sneaky bear attacks.
Although no one was heart in this bear/ human encounter it doesn't always play out like that.
In other news, in Russia a bear killed a hunter who had fatally wounded it in a revenge attack.
An unnamed 62-year-old hunter had shot the brown bear in the Tulun district of the Irkutsk region of Russia.
It was reported that graphic images from the scene show the man's body next to the dead bear.
It is thought that the man thought the bear was already dead and so climbed down from the platform in a tree from where he had shot it, only for the wounded creature to attack and crush his skull in a final act of defiance.
"When a 62-year-old man climbed down, the mortally wounded bear attacked and killed him,” reported the Interfax news agency.
“The carcass of the animal was found 50 metres from the place where the man died.”
The skull of the hunter was “crushed” and he suffered claw and fang wounds in the furious attack.
