Man furious as neighbour purposefully parks car to stop his mum from visiting

If you're lucky enough to have a driveway, you likely don't know how tricky it can be for other drivers to find suitable roadside parking for their car that's relatively close to their house - especially when many houses own more than one vehicle.

But one man's neighbour has decided to make life even more difficult for roadside parkers after they moved their own car off of their driveway in order to block one of the spaces that visiting vehicles use.

The man claimed his neighbour made the move specifically to spite his mum, who has been driving to his house and parking in the same spot every day for the past few weeks as she's been helping him renovate his newly purchased property.

And even though the space his mum parks in doesn't block his neighbour's driveway at all, his neighbours have been unwilling to allow her to keep parking in front of their house - despite it being perfectly legal for her to do so.

In a post on Reddit, the man claimed: "I recently bought my own apartment and it needed plenty of work doing to bring it into the 21st century. There's a communal car park with each apartment having a designated space. There's also plenty of road parking available for visitors as the houses on the road have private driveways big enough for 2-4 cars.

"My parents come around daily to help me renovate and so they often parked on the road at the nearest point to my apartment. It was still about a 50m walk to my front door but it was close enough to be doable for my mum who struggles to walk much these days. This was in front of one of the houses with a driveway but wasn't blocking their driveway or even getting close enough to make it difficult to get out of.

"One day as my mum left, the neighbour ran out of the house to move her car off of her driveway and park it between the two spaces outside her house. She then left the car there and went out of her way to always park one of their cars there, meaning my mum had to park 100m up the road - which was really hard for her.

"She was exhausted by the time she got to my front door and then had to go up a set of stairs too."

The man has been left furious by his neighbour's actions but was able to enact some "petty revenge" recently after it started raining.

He explained that following a heatwave, many people had left their car windows down slightly and had to frantically close them when the downpour started.

And when he noticed the neighbours hadn't noticed the rain entering their own car, the man decided not to tell them.

He added: "This weekend we had non-stop rain for the whole 2 days. It was amazing after all the heat. Guess who's fancy German saloon car had its windows most of the way down?

"Normally I'd knock and tell them as I did with my direct neighbours, who I like. However, this woman made things difficult for my mum, just because she wanted to use the two spaces outside her house for visitors, as well as her three-car driveway.

"While it pains me to see a nice car like that being neglected, I hope those seats were absolutely sodden."

Commenters on the Reddit post were split, as while some jokingly told the man to throw other things into the car such as washing up liquid or a fish, others came up with practical solutions that could help him out in the future.

One person said: "Did you ever talk to your neighbour about it? If you saw she was taking up both spots in front of her house, and you knew your mum was coming over, ask her to move her car a bit so your mom could park there.

"Explain that your mum is old and frail, and walking is difficult for her, so it would mean a lot to the both of you if your neighbour could move into one spot so your mum could park in the other.

"Maybe the neighbour doesn't realise your mum needs to park closer for health reasons and would move if asked."

While another added: "When your mum is coming over, move your car onto the street and let her have your spot."
