Man found with extreme pornography that would ‘shock any decent person’

A man was found with extreme pornographic images that would “shock any decent person”.

Brian Scott appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on Wednesday after pleading guilty to five counts of possessing extreme pornographic images involving horses. Derek Jones, prosecuting, said: “Officers attended the defendants home in Widnes as he was being investigated for another matter not related to this case.

“No charges were brought against him for that matter.” A mobile phone and laptop were seized as part of that investigation, and 60,000 photos were sifted through. Ten extreme pornographic images were found, portraying an adult female committing sex acts on a horse.

It was also determined 51-year-old Scott had searched for bestiality on his iPad. The defendant was interviewed by police and answered no comment to all questions.

He has six previous convictions for eight offences, but none of a similar nature. Last year, Scott was convicted for one count of assaulting an emergency worker, and being drunk and disorderly.

Paul Wood, defending, said his client is self employed as a builder and has been for 35 years. He said: “Candidly, he says he would do anything that the court orders.”

In sentencing, Judge Andrew Menary KC said: “It is a criminal offence, as you ought to have known, to possess the distasteful material of the type discovered on your phone in this case. It is the sort of material that would shock any decent person but is of a different category to the type of material this court normally sees.”

Scott, of Lower House Lane, Widnes, was given a fine of £500, and ordered to pay prosecution costs of £500, plus the victim surcharge. A deprivation order for the phone and iPad was ordered.
