Man found seriously injured outside bar after reports of 'stabbing'

A man was found seriously injured in the middle of the road outside a bar.

Police were called by North West Ambulance Service at around 1am on Saturday to Allerton Road in Woolton Village after a man in his 20s was found seriously injured in the middle of the road. The man was taken to hospital with injuries which are believed to not be life threatening.

It was also further reported that three men showed up at hospital with injuries that are not life threatening. There were a number reports that the incident involved a "stabbing", however a spokesperson for Merseyside Police told the ECHO that they were unable to confirm this due to being in the early stages of the investigation.

Today, there was a heavy police presence in Woolton Village, where they were a number of cordons in place and police vehicles. Forensic officers and detectives appeared to be focusing their attention inside and outside bar The Loft.

A blue tarpaulin also covered a white car which was parked opposite The Loft and evidence markers surrounded the car and pathway. A number of people living in the village were shocked to wake up to the scene this morning.

One person told the ECHO : "It's just horrible to see. Whatever's happened I feel sorry for the person. I got emotional seeing it here this morning."

The Woolton Christmas lights switch-on is due to happen tonight and the village was full of people organising and attending two Christmas fairs, while police were going about about their investigations. Liberal Democrat councillor for Woolton and Gateacre Kris Brown confirmed to the ECHO the Christmas light switch on will still go ahead.

Small businesses on Allerton Road were unable to open this morning due to the police incident and the road being cordoned off. It was re-opened at around 11am.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We are appealing for information after four men were assaulted in Woolton Village in the early hours of this morning, Saturday, November 26. At around 1am, officers were contacted by the North West Ambulance Service after a man in his 20s was found with serious injuries on Allerton Road.

"The man was taken to hospital for treatment for his injuries which are believed to be not life threatening. It was further reported that three men had presented themselves at hospital with injuries that are not life threatening.

"An investigation is underway and CCTV and forensic enquiries are being carried out in the local area."
