Man found dead on train tracks at Merseyside station

A man was found dead on train tracks in Merseyside.

Emergency services were called to a railway crossing near Birkdale after reports of a person on the tracks at around 6.21pm on Tuesday, September 27. Police attended and closed the road while train services from Southport to Hunts Cross were also cancelled.

Paramedics treated the man but he was pronounced dead at the scene. British Transport police confirmed the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokesperson for the force said: "British Transport Police were called to the line near Birkdale at 6.21pm yesterday evening (27 September) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, and sadly a man was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
