Man found dead in woods as investigation launched

A man was found dead in Wirral woodlands this morning.

Police were called to reports that the body of a man was found in woods at Upton Meadow, off Greasby Road, at around 5am this morning. Officers said that he was pronounced dead at the scene.

His death is initially being treated as unexplained by detectives while an investigation is being carried out. However they have confirmed that his death is not believed to be suspicious at this time.

A spokesperson for Merseyside police said: "We can confirm that officers are in Greasby following the unexplained death of a man. At around 5am this morning (Wednesday 18 January), the body of a man was found in woods at Upton Meadow, off Greasby Road.

"He was sadly pronounced deceased. The incident is being treated as unexplained while enquiries are carried out, but is not initially believed to be suspicious.

"Please avoid the area where possible while we carry out these enquiries."
