Man found dead after emergency services respond to 'concern for welfare' in city centre

A man was found dead after police were called to an address in the city centre this morning.

Emergency crews attended Edge Street at around 6.45am this morning (December 21) after receiving reports of a concern for the welfare of a man.

Despite the best efforts of emergency services, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A stretch of Copperas Street remains cordoned off as investigations continue. Greater Manchester Police said there are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "At around 6:45am this morning (Wednesday 21 December 2022), officers were called to a concern for welfare of a man on Edge Street in Manchester City Centre.

"Emergency services attended the scene.

"Sadly, the man passed away at the scene despite the best efforts of the emergency services.

"There are believed to be no suspicious circumstances surround his death."
