A MAN has been rescued after he was found clinging to a concrete pillar in the Firth of Forth.
Lifeguard vessels from Kinghorn and Queensferry RNLI were deployed at around 4:16pm on Friday after reports were received of a person in the water at Cramond causeway near Edinburgh.
The causeway links Cramond Island with the mainland at low tide but visitors are warned to time their visits carefully so as not to become stranded.
Lifeboat crews found that man about a third of the way along the causeway from Cramond village on the mainland.
He was taken to hospital with lacerations and suspected hypothermia.
Neil Chalmers, a volunteer with the Kinghorn lifeboat, said the man was “exhausted” when he was rescued.
"The person was extremely lucky,” he said. “We assume had been trying to get back from the island on the rising tide.
"Fortunately, a member of the public spotted them and called the coastguard."
Back in January, four people were rescued from Cramond Island after becoming cut off by the tide.
