AGARTALA: The Tripura Women’s Commission (TWC) has sought action against the persons, including the husband of a woman who forced her to marry another man after holding a kangaroo court in Krishnapur area in Khowai district on Sunday.
TWC chairperson Barnali Goswami asked police to investigate the incident which had gone viral on social media . Superintendent of police (Khowai) BP Chakraborty said based on the complaint, the police have initiated action against five persons named in the FIR and six unknown. “We shall take action according to law ,” he said. The victim alleged that before forcing her to marry another person in a paddy field, the villagers and her in-laws had beaten her severely along with the person who was branded her paramour.
According to the locals, the 40-year-old woman was accused of having an extramarital relation. The victim had allegedly gone out on Saturday saying she was visiting her daugther’s house. However, her husband came to know that his wife did not go to their daughter’s house. So, at night, he along with his brothers and a few others, stormed the house of the alleged paramour and caught his wife with him. After beating them up, they held a kangaroo court and forced the woman to marry the man.
Later, the police rescued the couple and shifted them to Teliamura hospital with severe injuries.
