A MAN has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after a single-car crash at Port Stephens.

Emergency services were called to Blanch Street at Boat Harbour just before 8am on Monday, September 23, after reports a vehicle had run off the road and hit a pole.

Port Stephens Hunter police officers attended the scene and found the driver, a man believed to be aged in his 60s, suffering serious injuries.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the man at the scene and called on a medical helicopter for help.

The man was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle later that morning, police confirmed.

"An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash has commenced," a NSW Police spokesperson said.

Traffic was affected in the area, near Anna Bay, while emergency services worked and the crash scene was cleared on Monday morning.

There are no ongoing delays reported, according to Live Traffic NSW.
