A man is in critical condition after being shot on farmland this afternoon.
A dog was also shot in the incident near the Hazel Grove area of Tallaght, south Dublin at around 1pm.
Gardai have arrested a man in his 50s at the scene in connection with the incident.
The victim, who is in his 30s and suffered serious head injuries, was rushed to Tallaght Hospital by emergency services. The scene is sealed off as a major Garda investigation is underway.
Garda search teams will also comb the area for evidence.
A Garda spokesman said: "Gardaí are investigating a serious shooting incident that occurred at a premises in the Hazel Grove area of Tallaght, Co. Dublin this afternoon, Tuesday, 22nd February 2022.
"Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene just after 1pm. A man, aged in his 30s received an apparent gunshot wound and was taken to Tallaght University Hospital where he remains in critical condition.
"A man, aged in his early 50s, was arrested at the scene. He is currently detained at Tallaght Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939. The scene is currently preserved for a technical examination to be conducted by the Garda Technical Bureau.
