Man fighting for life after Ayrshire motorcycle crash

A man is fighting for his life after being involved in a weekend road accident in Ayrshire.

The victim, who was on a KTM motorcycle, was seriously injured when his bike crashed on the B743 Muirkirk to Strathaven road yesterday afternoon.

The single vehicle crash happened at about 3.50pm and the 40-year-old male rider was taken by ambulance to Wishaw General Hospital.

Medical staff describe his condition as critical.

The road was closed between Muirkirk and Dungavel for around six hours to allow enquiries to be carried out.

Sergeant Paul Mellis, from Glasgow Road Policing Unit, said: “We are appealing for information to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and would ask anyone who witnessed the collision, or who was in the area at the time and has a dash-cam fitted to their vehicle to contact us.”

Information can be passed to Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number 2137 of Sunday, April 17.
