Man fighting for his life after being knocked from his bike in crash

A man is fighting for his life after being thrown from his bike in Hoylake.

Emergency services were called to reports of a crash, close to the Royal Liverpool Golf Club, at around 3.45pm on Sunday, August 14. Police and paramedics found that a cyclist had been involved in a crash with a Renault Clio.

The cyclist, a man in his 50s, was rushed to hospital with serious injuries. According to Merseyside police, he remains in hospital in a critical condition.

The road was closed for a number of hours while investigations were carried out. The driver of the car stopped at the scene. Officers are now appealing for information about the incident.

Roads Policing Sergeant Amy Murray said: "We’re continuing to investigate the circumstances behind this collision, which has left a man in a critical condition. His family are being supported by specialist officers and our thoughts go out to them at such a difficult time.

"As a matter of priority, we’d like to speak to anyone who was passing the golf club at around 3.45pm on Sunday afternoon, and has any images or footage from dashcam or other devices which may assist.

"Anyone who witnessed the collision or captured anything on CCTV or dashcam is asked to contact SCIU on (0151) 777 5747, or email SCIU@merseyside.police.uk. Alternatively DM @MerPolCC quoting reference 22000595720."
