Man drags lion to top of Welsh mountain to recreate Lion King photo

A man dragged a lion to the top of the Sugar Loaf mountain to recreate a famous Lion King scene.

Steve Bancroft, from Cwmbran , and his friend Mark Taylor decided to carry the life-size prop to the summit of the mountain in Monmouthshire for a Lion King-inspired photoshoot.

The 57-year-old, who runs a prop hire company, set off at 4.30am and managed to get the 40kg lion to the top just in time for sunrise at 5.55am.

Mr Bancroft said: "Me and my friend Mark both enjoy physical challenges and we run a prop hire company so we have got lions.

"After seeing the imagery in the Lion King film we thought 'we wonder if we could recreate that scene by putting our lion on a mountain?' and we said 'how about the Sugar Loaf?'.

"We put the lion in the van and drove up and then put it in a trolley and managed to wheel the lion three-quarters of the way up before having to carry it the last 300m."

The pair didn't have much of a chance to catch their breath as they only had a short window to capture the lion as the sun was rising.

"It was quite challenging as we had to stop every minute or so but we had to get it to the top in time for the sunrise," Mr Bancroft added.

"By the time we got to the top we were both out of breath but the glowing orange sunrise is only brief so we didn't have much time and we had to take it straight away.

"We often get clients in and they ask 'what could it look like if we hired it?' so if we can show them this then they can see a really cool image and it could inspire them."
