A 49-year-old man died in an accident on the A449 in Usk on Thursday. Gwent Police said that the man was from the Ebbw Vale area. The man was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash that involved a black Vauxhall Astra and a lorry.
It happened on the A449 Southbound Usk to Newport at around 5.30am on Thursday (May 5). The road was closed for more than 15 hours as investigation work was carried out at the scene.
A spokeswoman for Gwent Police on Friday said: "Officers attended to assist with traffic management, along with personnel from the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and Welsh Ambulance Service, and the collision involved a black Vauxhall Astra and a lorry. The driver of the Vauxhall Astra, a 49-year-old man from the Ebbw Vale area, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics."
The man's family are being supported by specially trained officers. The road was closed from early on Thursday, and reopened around 9pm. Anyone with information that could help the police is asked to call Gwent Police on 101.
