A 19-year-old man has died following a road crash on the M8 in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Around 1.50am, the teenager was driving a Toyota Yaris when it was involved in a collision with a stationary Iveco lorry on the westbound carriageway near to Junction 6, Newhouse, in North Lanarkshire.
Emergency services attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The M8 between Junction 5 and 6 westbound was closed from 2am and reopened just after 10am this morning, according to Traffic Scotland.
Sergeant Craig McDonald from the Divisional Road Policing Unit at Motherwell said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the man who died at this difficult time.
“Our investigation into the crash is continuing and I would appeal to any witnesses to contact us. I would also appeal to anyone driving on the M8 here around this time, who has dash-cam footage to come forward. Information can be passed to officers through 101 quoting incident number 0354 of 25 March.”
