Man dies following 'disturbance' at house with huge police scene and evidence tent in place

A man has died following a 'disturbance' at a house in Trafford, the Manchester Evening News understands.

A major emergency response was called out to the incident on Riddings Road in Timperley at around 2.30pm on Sunday (July 9). Forensics and detectives remained at the scene throughout the afternoon and late into the evening as investigations were carried out.

Horrified residents reported how police and paramedics swarmed the typically quiet street, racing to the scene on blue lights. A large cordon was put in place as crime scene investigators combed the scene.

They described their shock after spotting police 'everywhere' on the usually quiet residential street, with around six police vehicles parked at the scene. A number of ambulances also reportedly responded.

A short while later, as residents watched on from beside the tape amid investigations, a forensic tent was later erected outside of a property, which was also cordoned off.

Speaking to the M.E.N, one neighbour said: "Me and my husband went out for a walk earlier and saw seven or eight police cars just flying down the road. We hadn't a clue what had gone on.

"When we came back it was all closed off, it seems really serious. I can't believe it really. It's just so quiet here, there's never problems or anything but they've had police here for hours. There were about three ambulances too."

"The police arrived at 2.30pm. They closed the road off pretty quickly," another said. "There were three paramedic cars and an ambulance and they took a stretcher into a house."

As another added: "I heard all the sirens flying down the road this afternoon. You notice it because it is usually so quiet round here, you never hear sirens or anything. Everyone knows each other. I just really cannot believe this has happened in this area, I have been here for donkey's years."

The latest update from Greater Manchester Police confirmed that officers were called to a 'disturbance' before arresting a man, aged in his 50s, on suspicion of assault.

A statement from the force said: "At approximately 2:30pm today (09/07/2023) officers were called to reports of a disturbance at a home in Timperley. A man in his 50s has been arrested on suspicion of assault and investigations are ongoing.

"We believe this to be an isolated incident with no wider threat to the community. A visible police presence will remain around the area for some time whilst officers conduct their enquiries."
