A man has died in a suspected drowning at a beach in inner Melbourne.
Emergency services were called to the Port Melbourne beach on Thursday about 12:30pm after reports a man had been pulled unresponsive from the water.
"The man, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene," a police spokesperson said.
The death is not being treated as suspicious and police will prepare a report for the coroner.
It has been a devastating summer for drownings in Victoria.
The incident at Port Melbourne, just south of the CBD, came just a day after a couple in their 60s died in the far-east Victorian town of Mallacoota.
Earlier this month, Life Saving Victoria (LSV) said the state had experienced the highest holiday drowning toll in 18 years.
The majority of those deaths occurred at inland and coastal waterways, LSV said.
Victoria is experiencing heatwave conditions currently, with Melbourne in the middle of the hottest trio of days so far this summer.
