A 56-YEAR-OLD man has died after a falling tree hit into a van on a road in Angus.
The area has been hit with heavy rain and wind as part of Storm Babet, with a red weather alert in place.
Emergency services attended to the incident at Whigstreet, near Forfar, after 5pm on Thursday. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
His next-of-kin has been informed, police say.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 5.05pm on Thursday, 19 October, 2023, police received a report of a one-vehicle crash in which a tree struck a van on the B9127 at Whigstreet near Forfar.
“Emergency services attended, however, the 56-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Next of kin have been informed and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
Police confirmed that the B9127 remains closed.
It comes after the body of a woman was recovered from a river in Angus on Thursday evening.
On Friday morning, Angus Council said parts of the county were now only accessible by boat after flooding from the storm.
“Over 350 homes across Angus were contacted yesterday and advised to evacuate,” a spokesman said.
“Brechin, and increasingly other parts of Angus, are now only accessible via boat.
“Rescue crews are now dealing with over 100 calls from areas which were asked to evacuate yesterday evening.
“Emergency rest centres in Brechin, Montrose and Forfar are open to all those in need in Angus, pets are welcome too.”
