Man dies after major multi-vehicle crash closes M74 in both directions

A MAN has died after his Porsche collided with several vehicles before crashing on Glasgow's M74.

Police said the incident happened on the motorway at Junction 2 (Cambuslang Road Interchange) on Sunday, December 22.

At around 6pm, the 65-year-old's Porsche Boxster, which he was driving, collided with multiple motors before crashing into the central reservation on the southbound carriageway of the major road.

Emergency services raced to the area, however, sadly, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 45-year-old woman, who was driving a Nissan Leaf, and a 42-year-old woman, who was driving a BMW 2 Series, were taken to hospital for treatment following the crash.

Officers said the motorway was shut in both directions to allow a full investigation to be carried out.

It was fully reopened at 4.30am on Monday, December 23.

Sergeant Adnan Alam at the Road Policing, Helen Street, Govan said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased at this difficult time.

“We would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the crash and has not already spoken to police.

“We would also like to speak to anyone who was driving in the area and has dashcam footage to please check this as they may have captured the crash or just prior to it taking place.”

A spokesperson for Police Scotland added: "Anyone with information or dashcam footage should contact police via 101 quoting incident number 2609 of December 22, 2024."
