A investigation has been launched after a 34-year-old man died on railway tracks in south London shortly after being involved in a car chase with Metropolitan Police officers.
The Met Police said that a car heading towards Streatham High Road failed to stop for officers.
A vehicle pursuit was authoritised by the force and officers followed the car for a short time, indicating it should stop.
The man fled from the scene after crashing his car in Brunswick Mews, Streatham and police lost sight of the suspect near Potters Lane.
A police helicopter was called to aid the search and the man was spotted lying on railway lines near Estreham Road.
The power lines were turned off by National Rail. Officers and parademics approached the man but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
He has been identified as a 34-year-old man. His next of kin have been informed. An investigation has been launched following the man‘s death.
Officers from the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards have been informed.
The police watchdog, The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), have also been told and have declared this an independent investigation.
