A man has died after police were called to an incident in Newport this morning. Emergency services were called to an apartment block on Gaer Road at 9.15am on Sunday, June 4 following a report of concern for a man in the area.
Officers from Gwent Police attended along with paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service who pronounced a 79-year-old man dead at the scene.
The man's next of kin have been informed and his death is not being treated as suspicious. A report has been submitted to the coroner in relation to the death.

A Gwent Police spokesperson said: "We were called to Gaer Road, Newport at around 9.15am on Sunday June 4 following a report of concern for a man seen in the area. Officers attended, along with paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service who pronounced a 79-year-old man dead at the scene.
"His next of kin have been informed. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report has been submitted to the coroner in relation to the death."
