Man dies after incident involving 'out of control' dog

A man has died after he was injured during an incident involving an 'out of control' dog that was later shot dead by police, it was confirmed today.

A man arrested in connection with the tragedy remained in police custody for questioning on Sunday, a force has said.

The man's family 'have been made aware and "our thoughts are with them at this time", said Derbyshire Police in an updated statement on Sunday morning.

Officers were called on Saturday morning to reports that a man had been seriously injured at a house in Cameron Road, Derby.

"A dog at the address that was presenting a risk to officers and the public was destroyed at the scene," said police in a statement.

"A man has also been arrested in connection with the incident."

In the statement on Sunday, police added: "We are now able to confirm that the man injured during the incident in Cameron Road, Derby, died at the scene. His family have been made aware and our thoughts are with them at this time.

"The man arrested in connection with the incident remains in police custody and a scene remains in place at a house in Cameron Road. There will be an increased police presence in the area as enquiries continue and officers are keen to speak to anyone who may have information."

A number of roads remain closed.

"There is no ongoing risk to the public and officers will remain in the area as the investigation into the incident continues," added police. The man has not been named and no age for him has been released. The dog has not been described further.
