A man has died after a group of people were struck by a van in Derbyshire.
Emergency services were called to Market Place in Ilkeston just before 2.10am, Derbyshire police said.
A man suffered serious injuries and died at the scene, while two other people were treated for injuries at hospital, which are not thought to be serious.
Officers said a man, believed to be the driver of the van, had been arrested on suspicion of murder. He is currently in police custody.
The force said the incident was not believed to be terrorism-related.
It said Market Place would remain closed while officers carried out inquiries, and appealed for witnesses.
The local Erewash MP, Maggie Throup, said on X, formerly Twitter: “Residents will be waking up to news of a serious incident that has occurred in the vicinity of Ilkeston Market Place overnight.
“This is a developing situation and I would urge against speculating online as to what has happened. I am already in contact with the police and will receive a situation briefing later today. My thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected.”
