A man has died after he was struck by lightning during a heavy storm, it is reported.
The 29-year-old man passed away shortly after he was directly hit by the bolt in the popular Riverland region of South Australia at about 5pm local time on Saturday.
He is said to have been camping with his brother, who was stood only a few feet away from him at the time of impact.
Farmer David Modistach, who was in the area at the time, told 9 News that the lightning had come during one of the most intense storms to strike in years.
He said: "We haven't had storms like that here for years and it was good to see, but there was a lot of lightning and thunder.
"You're pretty unlucky to be hit."
He added that weather conditions in the area had been "so bad" at the time of the lightning strike that "one of the ambulances called to the emergency" became "bogged" on its way in.
Locals and visitors have been left shocked by the man's death, with a tourist named Trevor Monti describing it as a "terrible tragedy".
"It would be very difficult for his family and those around him," he added.
Last week, an inquest in the UK was told how a beloved mum died after being struck by lightning while on holiday in Croatia with her children.
Daniella DiMambro, 48, suffered injuries which later led to her death following the freak accident on a beach near Split, the inquest in Nottingham heard.
The mother-of-two suffered an "out of hospital cardiac arrest" after being struck on August 20, according to senior coroner for Nottinghamshire, Mairin Casey.
A JustGiving page has been set up in her memory in aid of The Brain Charity, where donations currently stand at £345.
