A man believed to be an abseiler has died following a fall from a cliff in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, located in Sydney’s north.
The incident occurred around 12:30 PM on Friday, when emergency services were alerted to reports of a man who had fallen approximately 20 metres from a cliff into the water below, as reported by 9 News.
Emergency responders quickly arrived at the picnic area along the Duckholes Trail at Terrey Hills.
Despite their efforts, the man, believed to be in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His body has since been recovered from the water, although he has not yet been formally identified.
In response to the incident, a crime scene has been established, and an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
“[It’s a] really confronting situation for everyone involved. [It’s also] a really dangerous situation, particularly for our firefighters who were on rope… to get down and recover this man, said Fire and Rescue NSW Superintendent Adam Dewberry to 9 News.
New South Wales Police have stated that they will prepare a report for the coroner.
