Man dies after fall from bridge onto M56

A man has died after falling from a bridge onto the motorway.

Emergency services were called to a bridge over the M56, at Preston Brook, to reports of concerns for safety of a man. Witnesses then claim to have seen a man fall from the bridge.

Officers attended and gave the man first aid but he died at the scene. There are believed to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding the man's death.

Traffic on the motorway was stopped for a number of hours while police attended the scene. A closure was in place between junctions 12 (Runcorn) and 11 (Preston Brook), from around 8.40pm on Tuesday, September 6.

A spokesperson for Cheshire police said: "At 8.10pm on Tuesday 6 September police were called to a bridge over the M56 at Preston Brook following reports of concern for safety.

"A man was seen to fall from the bridge. Officers attended the scene and gave the man medical attention, but he sadly died. There are no suspicious circumstances, and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
