A man has died after his car ploughed into a parked lorry on a Scots road.
Emergency services raced to the A71 between Moorfield and Bellfield roundabouts in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, at 3.45am today. Mercy crews were called to the incident after a Vauxhall Corsa travelling eastbound crashed into the HGV parked in a lay-by.
The male driver, who was the only only occupant of the car, sadly died at the scene. The male lorry driver was not injured.
A report is due to be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal. Officers investigating the tragedy have urged any witnesses to come forward.
In particular, they want to hear from those with dash-cam footage.
Sergeant Stewart Taylor, Roads Policing Unit, Ayrshire, said: “Although the crash happened in the early hours of the morning, this road is the main arterial route between Kilmarnock and Irvine so it’s possible that other vehicles were on the road at the time who may have either seen the crash happen or have information that will assist officers with their enquiries.
“Any information, including dash-cam footage, can be passed to officers via 101. Please quote reference number 0377 of Wednesday, 16 November 2022 when calling.”
