Merseyside Police were called to Orrell Lane at 12.50pm on Saturday, December 17, following reports of a crash. Once at the scene officers found a Ford-C Max car had crashed into bollards near the Asda.

Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson from the Matrix Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this sad time and they are being supported by specially trained Family Liaison Officers. I appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident or saw the vehicle immediately before it happened to please get in touch.

"I would also like to ask anyone who has dashcam footage or CCTV footage of the incident to make contact. Witnesses we have spoken to so far make mention of another vehicle stopping to assist after the collision, but those people would appear to have left prior to police arrival.

"If that was you, please call us. Any information we can gather may assist us in our investigation”.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is asked to call Matrix Serious Collision Investigation Unit on (0151) 777 5747, email SCIU@merseyside.police.uk, or DM @MerPolCC on Twitter quoting reference 22000928348.
