A man has died after a BMW crashed and caught fire on the M6 last week.
Merseyside Police has today confirmed that the man driving the BMW died shortly after arriving in hospital. Emergency services were called at around 5.10pm on Tuesday, February 14 to reports of a crash on the M6 between junction 28 (M58) and junction 27 (Wigan).
Emergency services including police, fire, ambulance and National Highways arrived at the scene shortly after and found a BMW had crashed into the motorway's central reservation. The road was closed in both directions while emergency services worked at the scene.

An air ambulance from Manchester landed a short time later before flying back to base. The fire service said crews tackled a fire in the boot of the car before leaving the scene 45 minutes later. Police confirmed a man was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.
And now a spokesperson for Merseyside Police confirmed the man died shortly after arriving in hospital. The spokesperson said: "An officer from our serious collision unity has confirmed that police attended the incident on the M6 and the man who was taken to hospital with serious injuries sadly passed away shortly after in hospital.
"His death has been reported to HM Coroner. There is no criminal investigation linked to this incident. Next of kin have been made aware and the man has been formally identified."
