Man dies after being hit by train from Manchester Piccadilly

A man has died after being hit by a train between Manchester Piccadilly and London.

British Transport Police were called to the scene of the incident near Goostrey in Cheshire just after 2.20pm yesterday (Sunday). Paramedics also rushed to the scene.

The man was sadly pronounced dead after being hit by a train, according to National Rail. The train was travelling between Manchester Piccadilly and London Euston.

British Transport Police said the incident is not being treated as suspicious. A file in relation to the man's death will be passed to the coroner.

The train line was blocked for several hours yesterday afternoon as emergency services attended the incident. Avanti West Coast, Northern and Transport for Wales services were affected.

A BTP spokesperson said: "British Transport Police were called to the line in Goostrey, Cheshire, at 2.21pm yesterday (26 June) following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended, however sadly a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
