Man dies after being hit by Police Scotland car on Boxing Day

A MAN has died after a Police Scotland car hit him on Boxing Day.

The victim, 62, was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary after the collision in Livingston, but was pronounced dead a short time after.

The marked police car only had one occupant – who was uninjured – when the man was hit at around 10:15pm on December 26.

Investigators with the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner for Scotland (Pirc) have put out a call for evidence around the incident. They were called in by the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS).

The man who died has not been formally identified, but his next of kin have been informed.

Superintendent Andrew Hall said: "Police attended at Almond Link Road in Livingston around 10.15pm on Monday, December 26, 2022, following a collision involving a marked police car and a male pedestrian.

"A 62-year-old man was taken by ambulance to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, and was pronounced dead a short time later.

"The male driver and sole occupant of the police car did not require medical treatment.

"Our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of the man who died.

"The circumstances of this incident are being investigated by the Police Investigations & Review Commissioner (Pirc) under the instruction of the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS)."

Steven Carr, senior investigator with Pirc, said: “Our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of the man who died.

“Our investigation into the circumstances of this incident is continuing, and I would urge any drivers with dashcam footage, or anyone who witnessed the collision, to please contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting reference 3422 of December 26, 2022 or alternatively the Pirc during office hours on 01698 542900.”
