Man dies after being hit by car while out walking in Dublin as gardai close road

A man in his 40s has died following a road collision in west Dublin on Saturday night.

The incident, involving a pedestrian and a car happened on the R120 in Newcastle at around 11pm.

The man who was out walking was seriously injured in the collision.

Gardai and emergency services rushed to the scene and he was taken to Tallaght University Hospital by ambulance where he later passed away.

No one else was injured in the crash.

The R120 (Peamount Road) remained closed on Sunday morning as gardai conduct a technical examination of the scene.

They are appealing for witnesses to the collision to come forward.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí in Clondalkin are investigating a fatal road traffic collision that occurred yesterday evening, Saturday 29th January 2022 at approximately 11pm.

"The collision, which involved a car and a pedestrian, occurred on the R120 in Newcastle, Co. Dublin.

"The pedestrian, a male aged in his 40s, was seriously injured during the collision. He was taken to Tallaght University Hospital by ambulance, where he later passed away.

"No other injuries were reported during the collision.

"The R120 (Peamount Road) is currently closed and local diversions are in place. Gardaí remain at the scene this morning, as Garda Forensic Collision Investigators conduct a technical examination.

"Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward and any road users with video footage (including dash cam) are asked to make this available to them.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Clondalkin Garda Station 01 666 7600 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111."
