Formby bypass remains closed this afternoon between Orrell Hill Lane and Liverpool Road and people are being asked to avoid the area. The road is expected to remain closed for some time and diversions remain in place.

Merseyside Police is appealing for witnesses following the fatal crash this morning. Serious collision investigator Sergeant Steve Smith said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the gentleman who sadly passed away following the collision.

“Our enquiries remain ongoing and we are appealing to anyone who was travelling along the Formby bypass, close to the junction of North End Lane, who saw the collision at just after 11am or captured anything significant on their dash cam to contact us.

“The Formby bypass will remain closed for a period of time as our investigation continues and we would urge motorists to find an alternative route.

“We would like to thank people for their patience while this incident is dealt with.”
