A man has died after an incident near a school in Edinburgh this afternoon.
Emergency services descended on Primrose Street, Leith, around 2.30pm on Tuesday to reports of a man being found injured.
Sadly he could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Photographs from the scene, which is 150 yards away from Leith Academy, show a major emergency presence. The street has been cordoned off and enquiries remain ongoing.
Edinburgh Live reports schoolchildren were seen walking past ambulances and police vehicles parked in the area.
One passerby said: "What looks like residents of the building were being interviewed by police, dozens of schoolchildren were standing around watching and another police van showed up when we got moved on.
"They’ve cordoned off the whole of Primrose Street now and everyone’s been moved on, just residents allowed in."
Owner of nearby takeaway Oriental Delight, Jessica Ruan, said they were suddenly told to close the shop. She said: "We had to close for a while, I saw police drive onto the street then all of a sudden we were told to close.
"We reopened at around 5pm. We weren't told much, but people have said that a man is dead. Very sad."
A local resident described the incident as worrying. She said: "It’s pretty scary to think about it happening so close. Obviously we don’t know the situation but it makes you worried about leaving the house, especially when it’s not the first time someone’s been killed in the last few weeks."
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2.30pm on Tuesday, 6 June, we were called to a report of a man injured in the Primrose Street area of Edinburgh.
“Emergency services attended and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
