A man died after being found injured in Lockerbie in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The 27-year-old was discovered in Townhead Street shortly before 6am.
Police were alerted and the man was taken by ambulance to Dumfries Infirmary but later died.
The street was closed off for several hours as officers carried out investigations into the incident.
Detective Constable Rachael Houston said: “At around 5.50am on Wednesday we were called to a report of an injured male on Townhead Street, Lockerbie.
“The 27-year-old was taken by ambulance to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary where he died a short time later.
