Man creates 'nuclear war survival kit' - but says we're all unlikely to survive

A survivalist has put together an atom bomb ' survival kit ' stocked with goods easily available online - but says it's only a bit of fun as we're all unlikely to survive if there was a nuclear war. Taras Young, author of Nuclear War in the UK and Apocalypse Ready, decided to prepare for impending doom when he had covid and wanted to keep busy.

He designed survival kits that are packed with everything you'd need to stay alive - providing you survived the initial blast. In the kit there's water purification tablets and pills that will help stave off cancer, and everything can be purchased from either Amazon or eBay, as the Daily Star reports. Taras' kit has been shared at the perfect time, as Russian despot Vladimir Putin recently sent a chilling warning that he would not shy away from going nuclear, insisting "this is not a bluff".

With concerns over the threat of nuclear conflict at their highest since the Cold War, Taras shared the contents of the kit on his YouTube page.

It does come with a disclaimer, though, with Taras admitting he thinks "nuclear war isn't survivable".

The items in his kit would, nevertheless, he reckons, come in handy in the aftermath of a nuclear strike.

In his YouTube video, He explains: "I tried to build a basic nuclear war survival kit using only bits and pieces I could order online from UK suppliers like eBay and Amazon.

"Please note - this is just a bit of fun! You almost certainly won't survive a nuclear war - even with this kit."

Young points out that one of the kit's most useful items is a metal entrenching kit which, for between £4 and £5 off Amazon, can be used as a spade, a saw or a pickaxe and also has a compass attached to it.

A signal mirror with a whistle - available on Amazon for £6.24 - also makes the kit with the intention of drawing the attention of any passing aircraft and anybody nearby.

Potassium iodide tables, already distributed in Ukraine and other parts of the world, are in the pack too.

A box of 60 currently cost £15 and they help prevent thyroid cancer in the event of a nuclear strike.

Water purification tablets are another item to make the kit.

Drinks giants Oasis sell them at a price of £3.95 for a pack of 100 and just one tablet is enough to make five litres of water safe.

Emergency foil blankets, costing £1.99 each, are another easy-to-buy item in the kit.

The recommended radiation meter, which can connect to your phone via Bluetooth, is harder to come by.

Finally, Young has stuck a knife in the kit which, he jokes, will "hopefully" only be used to cut things.

He goes on to list other potentially handy items such as John "Lofty" Wiseman's legendary SAS Survival Guide, hurricane matches, a micro fishing kit, and a pocket torch.
