Man convicted of attempted murder after attacking housemate with dumbbell

Firuz Raupov was left with life-changing injuries - (Met Police)

A man has been convicted of attempted murder after he struck his housemate with a dumbbell in a “traumatic” attack in Stratford.

Firuz Raupov suffered life-changing head injuries when he was attacked by Isakov Akhmad following an argument in the early hours of the morning on Sunday, June 9.

Akhmad 42, of Thorogood Gardens, was found guilty on Wednesday following a trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court and remanded in custody ahead of sentencing at the same court on March 31.

The trial heard the assault happened at the house where the two men lived in Stratford.

Isakov Akhmad will be sentenced on March 31 (Isakov Akhmad)

Akhmad was found and arrested nearby around three hours after the offence. He was charged with attempted murder six days later on June 15.

Detective Constable Sorcha Homer said: “This was a very traumatic incident and it is highly satisfying to have achieved some sort of justice for the victim and his family with a dangerous man now facing a prison sentence."
