Man City XI vs Burnley: Starting lineup, confirmed team news and injury latest for Premier League today

Josko Gvardiol will have to wait for his Manchester City debut as he is named on the bench against Burnley in tonight’s Premier League opener.

The Croatian international defender joined the club from RB Leipzig in a £77.6million deal last week and was not involved during Sunday’s Community Shield penalty shootout loss to Arsenal at Wembley.

The Treble winners are without both Ruben Dias and John Stones for the trip to Turf Moor, but Gvardiol is not brought straight into the starting lineup and is among the substitutes.

Kevin De Bruyne does start though, in a big boost for City. Despite the Belgian international missing most of pre-season with a hamstring injury picked up in the Champions League final win over Inter Milan in Istanbul in June, De Bruyne did feature off the bench against Arsenal.

Rico Lewis starts at left-back for the visitors, getting his chance in the absence of some of his more experience team-mates, while Phil Foden comes into the side with Jack Grealish on the bench.

Erling Haaland leads the line as expected, looking to build on his incredible first season in England.

Man City XI: Ederson, Walker, Akanji, Ake, Lewis, Rodri, De Bruyne, Bernardo, Foden, Alvarez, Haaland

Subs: Ortega Moreno, Phillips, Kovacic, Grealish, Laporte, Gomez, Gvardiol, Palmer, McAtee

Time and date: 8pm BST on Friday August 11, 2023

Venue: Turf Moor
