Man City will face Peterborough United in FA Cup fifth round

Manchester City have been drawn against Peterborough in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

The date for the match has yet to be set in stone, but it will be played in the week commencing February 28 and the Blues will be making the trip to London Road.

City eased their way past the free-scoring Fulham on Saturday with a 4-1 but it did look as though an unlikely upset could be on the cards in the early stages.

The Cottagers went into the tie having scored 23 times in their last five matches and continued that hot-streak with Fabio Carvalho giving them the lead after just four minutes.

Pep Guardiola's side quickly moved to snuff out their chances, however, as Ilkay Gundogan equalised just two minutes later before John Stones nodded them ahead after 13 minutes.

A four-minute brace from the returning Riyad Mahrez in the second half secured the win and the tie with Peterborough.

The Posh are currently in the midst of a relegation scrap in the Championship as they sit 22nd in the league and are being gained on quick by a resurgent Derby County.

While they haven't won in the league since December 11, they've made it to the fifth round of the cup with victories over Bristol Rovers and QPR.

The two teams have met just once before in their history, also in the FA Cup, with City winning 1-0 in 1981.

With their stranglehold on the Carabao Cup ended this season, the Blues will be aiming to get their hands back on the FA Cup this season.

They have won the trophy just once during Guardiola's reign, in 2019, and only twice in the 2000s. They were eliminated in last season's semi-final by Chelsea, who finished runners-up to Leicester City.
