Man City 'will face intense competition' for James Maddison and more transfer rumours

Manchester City and Newcastle United will reportedly compete for the signing of Leicester City midfielder James Maddison in the summer transfer window.

As reported by the Northern Echo, the Magpies will make a renewed attempt to sign the England international at the end of the season, having had a bid for the player rejected last summer. The 26-year-old is out of contract in 18 months and he has not signed a new contract at the King Power Stadium.

The report claims that City are also keen on a move for the midfielder, stating that the Blues have put Maddison's name close to the top of their summer wish list. Given that Bernardo Silva's future at the Etihad Stadium is unclear, it would not come as a surprise if the Blues targeted a new playmaker.

Maddison has registered 53 goals and 36 assists in 188 appearances for the Foxes - including 41 goals in the Premier League since signing for Leicester.

Elsewhere, the Sun have reported City made a January deadline day move for Fulham full-back Antonee Robinson. The American could be one of the players Pep Guardiola moves for at left-back this summer, should Joao Cancelo permanently move to Bayern Munich following his loan spell in Germany.

It claims City lodged an enquiry for the 25-year-old, but backed down when they learned of his £35million price tag. Robinson has also reportedly attracted interest from Inter Milan and AC Milan, albeit they are unlikely to meet Fulham’s valuation.

The Blues could have an extra £61.5m to spend in the summer if Bayern trigger Cancelo’s buy-out clause in his loan deal, depending on what transpires from the Premier League's recent financial accusations of the club.
