Man City 'wary of Liverpool' over Jude Bellingham transfer despite Pep Guardiola new contract

Liverpool will reportedly have competition from Premier League rivals Manchester City for the signing of Jude Bellingham.

The Reds continue to be linked with a move for the Borussia Dortmund midfielder, whose value is only likely to increase over the next few months. Bellingham is currently starring for England at the World Cup in Qatar, scoring his first goal for his country in Monday’s 6-2 win over Iran.

As well as Liverpool, the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Real Madrid have also been credited with an interest in the 19-year-old. And a fresh report has confirmed that City, who pipped the Reds to the title last season, will also be in the running for Bellingham, after signing his former Dortmund team-mate Erling Haaland in the summer.

The Mail Online reports that Pep Guardiola is moving closer to signing a new contract as City manager. It has been claimed that the Spaniard will sign an extension that will run until the summer of 2025 - a year before Jurgen Klopp’s deal at Liverpool is due to expire.

It has also been claimed in the report that, after signing a new deal, the defending Premier League champions will back Guardiola in the transfer market next summer. More specifically, with the funds to go and sign a new midfielder, with Bellingham claimed to be on the wanted list.

However, the report goes on to say that City are “wary” of the pulling power of the likes of Liverpool and Real Madrid. The article states further that the future of club captain Ilkay Gundogan could be pivotal in the club’s decision to sign a new midfielder.
