Manchester City's misery continued with a shock 4-0 Premier League rout by Tottenham Hotspur at Etihad Stadium on Saturday, marking the first time in Pep Guardiola's dazzling managerial career that he has lost five games in a row across all competitions.
James Maddison scored twice in the span of seven first-half minutes, while Pedro Porro netted shortly after the break and Brennan Johnson added a fourth goal deep in added time to end City's club record run of 52 consecutive home matches unbeaten in all competitions.
City remain second in the table on 23 points but are five points adrift of leaders Liverpool, with the Reds having a game in hand, while Spurs climbed to sixth on 19 points after 12 games.
Guardiola's four-time defending champions were all over the place defensively and paid the price in the 13th minute when Maddison side-footed in a cross from Dejan Kulusevksi. Maddison doubled the lead seven minutes later when he chipped the ball over grounded goalkeeper Ederson.
Porro put the match out of reach in the 52nd minute when Dominic Solanke cut back the ball for the Spaniard who unleashed a first-time effort past Ederson, and then substitute Johnson added one more in the 93rd minute in front of City's shell-shocked fans.

Guardiola admits 'nothing to say' as 'fragile' Man City stunned
21:58 , Jonathan GorriePep Guardiola challenged "fragile" Manchester City to accept their reality and break a shocking slump that extended to a fifth straight loss as Tottenham ran amok at the Etihad Stadium.
The reigning champions' hopes of an unprecedented fifth successive Premier League crown are evaporating as they continue to spiral.
A run that started with last month's defeat at Tottenham in the Carabao Cup continued as Ange Postecoglou's side survived an early storm to inflict a humiliating 4-0 defeat on the shell-shocked hosts on Saturday.

Pedro Porro and substitute Brennan Johnson scored after the break as City suffered a fifth consecutive defeat, bringing to an end their run of 52 games unbeaten at the Etihad Stadium.

Dan Kilpatrick at the Etihad Stadium
17:27 , Jonathan GorrieIt is a party atmosphere at the Etihad pre-match, as injured midfield Rodri parades the Ballon d'Or trophy on the pitch before kick-off. In spite of four straight defeats, the mood at City feels positive after Guardiola's contract extension and with key players beginning to return from the sidelines. Can Spurs burst their bubble?

Dan Kilpatrick at the Etihad Stadium
16:31 , Jonathan GorrieKulusevski has been Spurs' best player this season in a central role but it looks like he is back on the right wing this afternoon, with Brennan Johnson dropping to the bench. Presumably Postecoglou wants to give Spurs more of a midfield presence and energy against City, who will aim to dominate the ball.
As expected Dragusin and Ben Davies fill-in at centre-half and the extent of Postecoglou's injury problems is laid bare by the state of his bench. There are five teenagers among the subs, including academy pair Malachi Hardy, 16, and Callum Olusesi, 17, neither of whom have made a senior appearance. City have injury problems of their own, of course, but this feels like a real test for Spurs' creaking squad.

Kevin De Bruyne and Jack Grealish look potential game changers.

Ange Postecoglou makes admission over Tottenham 'scrutiny' as Christmas target set
15:42 , Jonathan GorrieAnge Postecoglou has accepted he will be under pressure if Tottenham are still mid-table at the end of a run of nine games in 30 days, starting with Saturday's visit to Manchester City.
The 2-1 home defeat to Ipswich before the international break left Spurs in 10th, with five wins and five defeats from their first 11 Premier League games of the campaign.
Ange Postecoglou reveals new Cristian Romero update as depleted Spurs face Man City test
15:34 , Jonathan GorrieAnge Postecoglou hopes Cristian Romero is nearly over the toe and hamstring problems which have hampered the Argentine in recent weeks but says Tottenham will give the defender time to return to 100 per cent fitness.
Romero, who this week became a dad for the second time, will miss Spurs' visit to Manchester City on Saturday as he continues to recover from a toe injury and a tight hamstring.
Pep Guardiola reveals stance on Man City relegation after signing new contract amid 115 charges
15:21Pep Guardiola says he will remain Manchester City manager even if they are found guilty of alleged breaches of financial rules and relegated as a punishment.
City have 115 charges of alleged breaches of financial regulations looming over them, with a verdict expected to be made public by next spring. Among the potential punishments mooted if City are found guilty of serious offences is relegation to the Championship.
Man City vs Tottenham: Premier League score prediction
15:04 , Jonathan GorrieIt’s difficult to know where either team will be after the break and, naturally, a lot depends on injuries.
Still, as poor as City have been of late, it’s almost impossible to imagine them losing for a fifth consecutive game.
Man City to win, 3-1.
Tottenham team news vs Man City today
15:01 , Jonathan GorrieTottenham are tonight set to be without both first-choice centre-backs for a daunting trip to Premier League champions Manchester City.
Cristian Romero (foot) and Micky van de Ven (hamstring) will both miss the trip to the Etihad Stadium for the second season running, with Radu Dragusin and Ben Davies expected to fill in.
Rodrigo Bentancur will serve the first of his seven-game domestic ban and is set to be replaced at No6 by Yves Bissouma, while James Maddison is fighting to return to the XI after slipping behind Pape Matar Sarr and Dejan Kulusevski in the pecking order in recent weeks.
Richarlison and Wilson Odobert (both hamstring) are long-term absentees and Mikey Moore remains unavailable following a virus, so Heung-min Son and Brennan Johnson are all but certain to flank Dominic Solanke in the front three.
Man City team news vs Tottenham today
15:01 , Jonathan GorrieManchester City midfielder Mateo Kovacic has been ruled out for up to a month in a fresh injury blow ahead of tonight’s visit of Tottenham.
Kovacic picked up an injury on international duty with Croatia and will miss Saturday’s home Premier League match.
Guardiola explained on Friday: “Kovacic is injured. It will be a while. Three weeks or one month, more or less.”
In more positive news, the City head coach revealed that some players injured before the international break have now returned to first-team action.
“Some of them, yes,” he said. “John [Stones] trained good yesterday, Manu [Akanji] trained good yesterday, Nathan [Ake] is coming back to training. We didn’t have central defenders. Now we have three. Just Ruben [Dias] is out, but hopefully he’s coming back soon.
“I don’t know if they are ready to play 90 minutes or play from the beginning, but to see their faces is a really good boost for all of us.”
