Manchester City’s hopes of continuing their dominance at the top of English football will be boosted by the arrival of striker Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund this summer. Manchester City
City agreed a £51.2m deal almost a fortnight ago to sign Haaland from Dortmund, with the Norwegian, regarded as one the most talented strikers in world football, signing a five-year deal at the Etihad Stadium.
A report from The Times claims that Pep Guardiola’s side pinpointed Haaland as their number one target earlier this year ahead of Tottenham striker and Harry Kane. That is despite City being heavily linked with the England captain and a 2021 summer saga in which he came close to moving to Manchester
The report adds that Haaland opted to move to the Sky Blues following a conversation with Pep Guardiola over his vision for the player in his team next season, as well as how his playing style will pair up with City’s. The phone call between the duo is said to have gone well, with Haaland asking a number of questions which the Spaniard was able to answer while telling him what he could expect in his team.
Meanwhile, representatives of Kane’s contacted City back in February, they made it clear how their sole focus was on a move for Haaland, the son of former City defender Alf-Inge.

Haaland's arrival in the Premier League serves as a warning to the rest of the Premier League, with City securing yet another title on Sunday. At the Etihad Stadium, the Sky Blues found themselves 2-0 down to Aston Villa midway through the second half after goals from Matty Cash and Philippe Coutinho. However, a double from substitute Ilaky Gundogan either side of Rodri’s goal saw City seal a 3-2 win and beat Liverpool to the title by a point.
Haaland leaves Dortmund with an impressive goalscoring record ahead of his move to Manchester. The Norwegian scored 86 times in 89 appearances in all competitions, including 62 in the Bundesliga and a further 15 in the Champions League.
The striker adds to a prolific front line; Guardiola’s players netted 99 goals in the Premier League last season, despite having no players in the top five scorers in the division this season.
One member of City’s forward line who could depart in the summer is striker Gabriel Jesus, who has been heavily linked with interest from Arsenal. However, the forward may be put off a move to North London after the Gunners only managed to qualify for the Europa League.
