Man City trophy parade: Fans flock to city centre as Premier League champions show off domestic treble haul

Manchester City fans gathered together in the town centre to celebrate the team's unprecedented domestic treble success on Monday evening.

Thousands of supporters were present as Pep Guardiola and his title-winning squad displayed their three trophies - the Premier League, EFL Cup and FA Cup - as they made their way through the streets of Manchester.

The club hired four buses for the occasion, with Guardiola on a separate coach with all his coaching staff, while the men's and women’s teams were placed on their own individual buses.

The parade began near the cathedral in the town centre before moving from Manchester Town Hall, before the players arrived at the Cathedral at around 7pm to show off their silverware.

City also invited fans and children from the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital on board, having visited the hospital over the festive period.

A number of former players were welcomed along to the event, such as club legend Mike Summerbee and ex-strikers Shaun Goater and Paul Dickov, who answered questions about the season outside the town cathedral.

Captain Vincent Kompany, who announced his departure on Sunday after 11 years at the club, was among those on board and the Belgian looked emotional as he was serenaded by the supporters.

Guardiola paid tribute to Kompany on the stage, saying: "I’m going to miss him. I think it is an incredible way to say he’s going to see us in the future because he is coming back.

"This was the best way to say goodbye. He was an incredible captain.”

Bernardo Silva was also named Player of the Year at the ceremony after a string of impressive performances in a City shirt this season, scoring 13 goals and registering seven assists.

When asked about the season, the 24-year-old insisted the supporters deserve European success after completing the treble. “I think you guys, the supporters, need to demand more from us, you need to demand European trophies," he said.
