As well as things are going for Manchester City at the moment, manager Pep Guardiola will surely be tempted to add to his squad in January.
City flexed their muscles against Chelsea on Saturday, winning 1-0 thanks to Kevin De Bruyne's fine goal. That made it 12 top-flight wins in a row for the defending champions.
However, the squad is a little short of numbers in key areas when compared to some sides at the summit of the table. As a result, a heavy workload and subsequently jaded or injured players may make the second half of the season a little more of a grind.
Mirror Sport has the latest City transfer news, including updates on two full-backs and one of Europe's best midfield prospects.
What position should be the priority for City to strengthen in upcoming transfer windows? Let us know in the comments section!
Hernandez set for Milan stay
City have been previously linked with Milan and France full-back Theo Hernandez, but he appears set to stay with the Italian giants.
Since moving to the San Siro in 2019, Hernandez has progressed into one of the most influential attacking full-backs in European football.
As a result, he's been linked with a number of clubs, including Premier League duo City and Chelsea, as well as Paris Saint-Germain.
But it would seem the 24-year-old is fully on board with the plan in Milan and will commit his future to the club imminently.
"I'm very happy at Milan, we are discussing the renewal of my contract and things are going very well," he told The Athletic (h/t Fabrizio Romano).
Gavi close to new Barcelona contract
According Romano, another reported City target Gavi will sign a new contract at Barcelona.
The Manchester outfit have been linked with a move for the Blaugrana and Spain prodigy, who has enjoyed a remarkable start to his career and currently has a release clause in his contract of €25 million (£20.8 million).
Given his potential, it was no shock to see a number of high-class sides mentioned as potential suitors for the 17-year-old, including Guardiola's team. However, he is said to be keen to remain at the Camp Nou.
"New, big clause in the new deal," said Romano of the new terms, which will run until 2026. "Gavi only wants to stay."
Couto claim made
Braga manager Carlos Carvalhal has offered advice to Yan Couto on how to make the step up at City.
Couto has been impressing on loan with the Portuguese side this season, helping the team to fourth place in the table behind the illustrious trio of Benfica, Porto and Sporting CP.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Carvalhal said the 19-year-old Brazilian could be an ideal fit for Guardiola's side if he makes some improvements.
"He can make the difference in our attacking dynamic, but he has to improve to be a player at the Manchester City level," he said.
"Pep Guardiola likes good players, and Yan has a good relationship with the ball.
"I told him that to play for City he has to be very good in the offensive organisation, and he is good. But he must also be good at defensive organisation, and he must improve that."
