Man City told the only surprise with Erling Haaland's Premier League start

Manchester City have been told the only surprise with Erling Haaland's quick start to the Premier League.

The Norwegian striker has started the season in scintillating form. Wednesday's hat-trick at home to Nottingham Forest was his second in as many matches having grabbed his first in England the previous Saturday vs Crystal Palace.

His first-half dominance of the East Midlands side took his goal tally to nine from just five matches. Speaking to BonusCodeBets, Liverpool legend John Barnes explained that he was shocked by one aspect of Haaland's start.

"Haaland is a fantastic player but I'm not really surprised by him as it's what I expected," he explained. "He has surprised me a little bit because I didn't think he'd do as well as he has because he's scored nine goals in six matches (including the Community Shield) and I thought it would have taken him longer to adapt to the way Man City play.

"I thought Man City would have taken longer to adapt to him because of the way they play. It seems to be a match made in heaven.

"Even though football in England is harder than in Germany, he's shown that where he goes, he can score goals." Haaland received his fair share of critics after his competitive debut against Liverpool in the Community Shield.

However, a brace the following weekend at West Ham has seen the 22-year-old move from strength-to-strength. It was expected that Haaland would be rested against Forest but, for the first time, we saw Julian Alvarez and the Norwegian start a match together - a combination which Pep Guardiola has claimed we will see more of moving forward.
