Man City 'to make decisive steps' to sign Joško Gvardiol 'in days' and other transfer rumours

Manchester City are set to hold a fresh round of talks with a view to signing Joško Gvardiol, according to reports.

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano claims that the Premier League champions have scheduled a new round of talks, with the aim of progressing a deal for the Croatia international. City's 'initial approach' saw a €75million fee plus add-ons rejected, with the Bundesliga side said to be after a massive €100m.

That would make the 21-year-old the most expensive defender in the world. He has made over 130 senior appearances in his career and played 41 games for Leipzig last season. Gvardiol's current contract runs until 2027 and has been linked with a move to the treble winners throughout the summer.

RB Leipzig sporting director, Max Eberl, confirmed the player's intention to sign for City earlier this month. He said: Gvardiol and his agents gave us their desire to move to Manchester City. We are in talks with City. Yes, for €100 million plus bonuses, Gvardiol will end up in Pep’s strong hands."

Elsewhere, the Daily Mail report that Borussia Dortmund are keen on a move for City youngster Carlos Borges. The winger was linked with West Ham United earlier this year, but Bundesliga interest has now emerged.

The 19-year-old, who was signed from Sporting CP back in 2015, won the Under-21 Player of the Year award after making 31 goal contributions in 24 matches. Borges is a pacey, powerful wide player who played a key role in City's Premier League 2 title-winning campaign.
