Man City surprise local schoolchildren with all three Treble trophies

A group of primary school children in Newton Heath went to school on Monday morning to find all three Treble trophies on display.

Manchester City completed the Treble on Saturday when they won the Champions League final by beating Inter Milan in Istanbul. The silverware that has eluded the club for so long has finally been added, and sits alongside the Premier League and FA Cup trophies won this season as City completed an achievement only managed once before in the history of English football.

Pep Guardiola and his players flew home on Sunday, and the club have wasted no time in bringing all the trophies together. Ahead of the parade through the city on Monday evening, youngsters in Newton Heath - two miles down the road from the Etihad - got their hands on the silverware during a City in the Community session to help celebrate the official opening of one of the new CITC Playzones - a purpose-built recreational area aiming to help the physical and mental health of young people.

Former City player and now CITC Trustee Nedum Onuoha was present on Monday morning to join in the session. “I know first-hand how transformational these PlayZones are for areas like Newton Heath," he said.

“Spaces like this can bring down barriers which exist for many people when accessing informal, recreational football, in turn supporting health, socialisation and confidence.

“By creating free spaces for people of all abilities, we hope that local people can connect through sport, without fear of judgement or safety, all year round.”

The event is the latest way in which CITC have been tied into the club's Treble-winning efforts. Alex Williams, who has been at the head of the charity for over 30 years, presented the Premier League trophy to Ilkay Gundogan after the Chelsea game and the CITC name featured on the back of the match shirts worn for the FA Cup and Champions League final, with players later signing them for an auction to support the charity.

The Treble of Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League is the ultimate footballing achievement and you can get your hands on the only official souvenir publication of Manchester City's history-making 2022-23 season, packed with amazing pictures, match reports and reaction.
