Man City summer transfer ratings as Haaland looks like a bargain already

Manchester City have been busy this summer as they have seen a number of key players leave and five new players arrive.

Deadline day saw Borussia Dortmund centre-back Manuel Akanji arrive to bolster the defence, joining Erling Haaland, Kalvin Phillips, Sergio Gomez and Stefan Ortega in signing permanently, while Julian Alvarez linked up with the Blues after spending the initial months following his January signing back at River Plate.

It's also been a busy summer of exits, with nine permanent players leaving City and a number of youth players leaving on loan. We've ranked all of City's significant ins and outs over the summer, taking into account their value, how they've done so far, and whether they will represent good business going forward.

Erling Haaland (£51m)

City beat off competition from top clubs around Europe, paid a very reasonable £51m fee, and Haaland has already repaid them with nine goals in his first five Premier League games. He's already well on his way to being a huge success. 9

Kalvin Phillips (£42m)

Injury has restricted his minutes so far, but has looked promising in the friendly games he's played. When fit, will give City a different, yet reliable, option in midfield, and represents decent value for an England international in a World Cup year. 7

Manuel Akanji (£15m)

A late transfer to boost the numbers in defence, Akanji seems to come with decent pedigree and has important European experience, but it's too early to say if he will fit in without yet kicking a ball. Still, he's low-risk at £15m. 6

Sergio Gomez (£11m)

City spent most of the summer chasing Marc Cucurella but walked away when Brighton's asking price was too high, leaving City light on full-backs. Gomez will be a good cover option and is another low-risk signing in terms of a transfer fee. 6

Stefan Ortega (Free)

Solid when called upon in friendlies, and will take Zack Steffen's place as back-up to Ederson. For his role in the squad, he seems to be a good signing. 7

Julian Alvarez (£14m, signed in January)

City didn't see any of Alvarez after he signed in January and have only welcomed him this summer, so he can be included in a summer round-up. The 22-year-old never stops running, seems to have a good attitude, and has three goals already in competitive games. Looking like an absolute steal for the price. 8

Raheem Sterling (to Chelsea, £47.5m)

Sterling couldn't get the playing time he wanted at City, so made the switch to Chelsea, and has spoken about various tensions with City before leaving. Selling to a top four rival isn't ideal, but the fee received is good value and Sterling clearly wanted to leave. A fair deal all round. 7

Gabriel Jesus (to Arsenal, £45m)

Another player who would have found playing time limited, especially with Haaland and Julian Alvarez arriving. It's a shame it didn't work out at City, but the Blues made a good profit, Jesus is showing his qualities, and there are no hard feelings about the move. 7

Oleksandr Zinchenko (to Arsenal, £30m)

In financial terms, to gett £30m for a player signed for less than £2m is remarkable business, and he would have remained as second-choice on the left. With Cucurella not signing, the decision to elt Zinchenko leave has been questioned, and he may be the senior player who will be most missed this summer. 6

Gavin Bazunu (to Southampton, £12m)

After loans at Rochdale and Portsmouth, the Republic of Ireland international secured a permanent move that could see the fee rise further. He's started as first choice for Saints, and City have various clauses connected to Bazunu's next move including a buy-back option. A sensible transfer for good money. 7

Romeo Lavia (to Southampton, £10.5m)

Like Bazunu, City's fee for Lavia could rise if he continues to impress at St Mary's, where he has started as a regular and scored against Chelsea this week. With similar clauses to Bazunu, the Blues will have plenty of interest in Lavia's progress, and it makes sense to sell at this stage given the money on offer. Only downside is that is's a shame to lose such an exciting prospect. 7

Sam Edozie (to Southampton, £10m)

Edozie wasn't going to get first team games for City this season, and may be getting to the stage where under-23 football is less and less beneficial. So to get up to £10m for Edozie represents a fair deal for City and for the player. 6

Pedro Porro (to Sporting Lisbon, £7.2m)

A pre-arranged fee means City might have got less for Porro than they might have done if they were able to negotiate, but he was never going to play for them and he brought in a healthy sum to help fund the summer transfer activity. 6

Juan Larios (to Southampton, £6m)

There's a bit of an unknown nature to this deal, with Larios highly-rated, but City will have found it hard to turn down £6m for him. Southampton will offer him Premier League football this year, which City couldn't, but they still rate him highly enough to include a sell-on clause, buy-back clause and option to match future offers incase he does well at Saints. 7

Darko Gyabi (to Leeds, £5m)

For a player who struggled with injuries and was not a regular for the under-23s last term, getting £5m from Leeds was a very good deal, and it helped Leeds offset the sale of Kalvin Phillips. 7

Ko Itakura (to Borussia Monchengladbach, £4.3m)

Like Porro, Itakura was not in City's first team picture, so a sale made sense, and the fee was reasonable. 6

Arijanet Muric (to Burnley, £2.5m)

After a number of unremarkable loan moves, £2.5m plus add-ons is good business for the goalkeeper. 6

Zack Steffen (to Middlesbrough, loan)

A surprising one at the start of the window, but Steffen wanted to play ahead of the World Cup to secure his place for the USA, so a loan is fair and Stefan Ortega seems a good replacement. 6

Tommy Doyle (to Sheffield United, loan)

Looking to build on a good spell at Cardiff last season, Doyle will get tested at the top end of the Championship with Sheffield United, and has impressed in flashes so far. 7

Liam Delap (to Stoke, loan)

Delap would have found minutes hard to come by at City this season, and has outgrown U23 football. Stoke have a family connection for the striker, who should get regular football and a chance to show his raw talent at Stoke in his first loan away. 6

Taylor Harwood-Bellis (to Burnley, loan)

A regular for both Blackburn and Stoke in previous loans, Harwood-Bellis has started as first choice for Vincent Kompany at Turf Moor. A move that should benefit all parties. 7

James McAtee (to Sheffield United, loan)

He's having to fight for game time already at Bramall Lane, but McAtee has the talent to impress if he can get a run of games. The Blades' style may work against him, but this will be a good challenge. 6

Luke Mbete (to Huddersfield, loan)

Manuel Akanji's arrival means Mbete can head out on loan for some valuable senior experience to build on a solid pre-season with City. 6

Kayky (to Pacos Ferreira, loan)

A clear talent, although Kayky needs games and wouldn't have got them at City. Maybe Pacos are a bit underwhelming but it's up to Kayky to show his qualities and make the most of the loan. 6
